## 1. Statutory Electrical & Earthing Requirements (BS 7671 Part 722)
Under Section 722 of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022, every dedicated 7.4kW (32A single-phase 230V) electric vehicle chargepoint installation must adhere to strict safety regulations:
- **Open-PEN Fault Detection (Regulation 722.411.4.1):** When connected to a TN-C-S (PME) earthing system, the charger must either incorporate automated open-PEN disconnection device (e.g. built into Zappi, Ohme, Hypervolt), an earth electrode with resistance $R_A < 20Omega$, or a dedicated isolation transformer.
- **RCD Protection (Regulation 722.531.3.101):** Every EV socket must be protected by a Type A 30mA RCD with 6mA DC residual direct current detecting device (RDC-DD) conforming to BS IEC 62955, or a Type B RCD.
- **Surge Protection Devices (SPDs):** Regulation 443.4.1 mandates SPD protection at the consumer unit distribution board.

## 2. DNO G98 Notification & Main Fuse Adequacy
A standard 7kW EV charger draws 32 Amps continuous load.
- **DNO G98 "Fit & Inform":** If the property has an 80A or 100A main cutout fuse and the supply is unlooped, the certified electrician submits an ENA G98 notification within 28 days of commissioning at £0 fee.
- **60A Cutout or Looped Supply:** The installer must notify the regional DNO (UKPN, National Grid, Northern Powergrid, SPEN, ENWL, SSEN) prior to installation for a free fuse upgrade or unlooping. Dynamic CT clamp load balancing is required to prevent tripping during peak domestic demand (electric shower / induction cooktop).

## 3. £350 OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant (2026 Rules)
Freehold homeowners are no longer eligible for the £350 grant. However, flat owners (leasehold/share of freehold), tenants in rented residential properties, landlords (up to 200 properties), and commercial workplace parking retain the £350 grant voucher.

## 4. Tariff Economics & Operating Savings
- Standard Ofgem Price Cap (2026): ~24.5p/kWh (£0.070/mile at 3.5 mi/kWh)
- Intelligent Octopus Go / OVO Smart EV Tariff: 7.0p/kWh (£0.020/mile at 3.5 mi/kWh)
- Public DC Rapid Charging: ~55.0p/kWh (£0.157/mile at 3.5 mi/kWh)
- A driver covering 10,000 miles/year saves £500 to £1,370 annually by home smart charging.
